On Tuesday, December 6th, at 3:45 in the afternoon (15:45), we will gather at the Melabev center at 152 Derech Beit Lechem, Jerusalem. If you haven't yet sent your Registration Form, do so now.
After confirming registration details, distributing the hikers T-shirts and everyone has enjoyed the refreshements and socializing, we will board the buses for the Moonlight Walk. Here is the breathtaking description of the Walk by Geoff Winston of Keshet Tours:
The Moonlight Walk has been found and finalized! We found a great place where we will be splitting into two groups – advanced and less advanced. The less advanced group will start at a breathtaking overlook of the St. George's Monastery behind Mitzpe Yericho and will then walk through a dry river bed to the moshav of Vered Yericho (1.6 kilometers). We will enter through the back fence into the moshav and walk one more kilometer to the moshav's swimming pool, where we will have dinner (and bathrooms!) Most of the walk is flat or slightly downhill. There is an uphill of about 200 meters. The whole thing is on a jeep trail.
The advanced group will start a kilometer further in with an even more amazing view of the monastery. We will walk along the ridge overlooking the monastery and then join up to the same path as the less advanced group. We hope to finish at about the same place at the same time.
And while I'm at it, the moon rises at about 1:30pm on December 6th and will reach its peak at an impressive 780 (thanks Yossi) – meaning this year's moonlight walk will be in the moonlight!
Attached is a picture of the area we will be hiking.
Register now to reserve your place for this invigorating and social experience that culminates in a savory barbecue!
Following the meal the hikers traveling on for the two-day Golan Hike will board the buses taking them north to Medreshet Hispin for the night. The buses bringing walkers back to Jerusalem are expected to return to the city by 9:00 p.m. from the Moonlight Walk.
