The Melabev Day Care Center in Beit Shemesh has elderly members from all over the world; and while many languages are spoken, MUSIC is the universal language shared by all. This became especially apparent during the weekly sing-a-longs, which included old tunes the members recalled from early childhood. Even the quietest of members would join in the singing be it English, Hebrew or Yiddish and thus the idea of a Melabev Choir was born.
Judy Clark, who is our volunteer music therapist, came in every Monday morning for weeks to practice with the choir and the dramatic results were on display at the "Night of Stars" production September 8th at Kibbutz Tzora. The show opened with member Rosie Z. acting as M.C. Rosie introduced the Melabev Women's Choir which was led by volunteer Miriam Stahler (the Rebbe of Tzotz) and they were a big hit! What a touching sight to see the Beit Shemesh elders all dressed up and performing on stage like pros! Kol hakavod to Judy Clark and all of our seniors who made us so proud! The choir was followed by other talent acts starring women and girls from the community. During the intermission, Melabev members hosted a craft and bake sale featuring holiday items and treats prepared by the seniors as a fundraiser. The sale and accompanying raffle was a smashing success and brought in much needed funds for the Beit Shemesh center. We are already looking forward to the next Night of Stars performance; it pays to buy your tickets early because these events are always SOLD OUT!! Best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year, from the members and staff of Melabev Beit Shemesh!!
